Looks like our weather for the afternoon is okay, though some who are coming from a distance should check their areas for very late afternoon or early evening shifts to potential freezing rain. We will definitely go ahead with the event! See the bottom for the weather forecast advisory starting at 7 pm Saturday….
This event will have three phases beginning with our youngest students sharing their tunes (1 pm), morphing into a slow jam with more experienced students and a broader community (2 pm though coming at 1:45 might be okay depending on how swiftly I get through the first bunch of tune shares!), and morphing from that into a full speed jam party which will start at about 3 pm. This is in part to celebrate the return of John’s energy following his open-heart surgery in May and his ability to play an instrument for extended periods, and an opportunity to thank the community for all their help this past year.
This will take place at the Burlington Friends Meeting House at 177 North Prospect Street in Burlington. Please do not park in tenant spots. Parking will mostly be available in nearby streets as there are only 8 spots available directly in front of the Meeting House. Note the rules for the use of the space below. Thanks!
Schedule as it is evolving:
1:00 - 2:00 Musicale with Sarah and John’s students. Each child will play their tune pick of something they are working on and present it to the group. Afterwards, if there are others who would like to play along, we will play the tune together a few times and then move on to the next tune.
2:00 - 3:00 (arriving at 1:45 is fine and we may even get to start a little early!) Slow Jam Participants will present or request a tune, and Sarah will lead or facilitate. We will play each tune a few times slowly and then more moderately. A few of Sarah’s students will be leading the first tunes which are mainly from the current Fiddleheads Session repertoire including “The Moon and Seven Stars”, “L'Air Mignonne” and “Willafjord”. We will also will play “Whiskey Before Breakfast” and “Coleraine” Other tunes will be announced on Saturday.
3:00 - 5:30 or so (Must be out by 6 pm) Full speed jam and party for all our friends and the greater music community that we have been involved with over the years. Let’s celebrate John’s recovery!!! Music styles will likely be mostly from the fiddle tune repertoires of Old Time, Celtic, and Quebecois styles. Please bring beverages and light refreshments. Wine and Beer is allowed in moderation. We will provide cups, napkins, and plates, etc.
